Shannon Myers
Self Portrait, 2011

Born in the Canadian prairies and raised both there and in the mountains of British Columbia, Shannon has spent time living abroad in Paris France, and Irun Spain. Presently she is in her last year of an Anthropology degree with a Photography minor at Concordia University in Montreal, QC. Her interest in humanity is the catalyst behind her studies in anthropology, which she intends to combine with documentary photography in her career. Her specialty, however, is working with musicians in a realm where sound guides expression of the visual.

Experimenting with various photographic practices and developing her skill for over thirteen years, Shannon has worked independently as a photographer since she was thirteen. Her work is enhanced by a diploma in the Fine Arts from UBCO that provided formalist and historic training in the areas of colour and composition in her chosen mediums of drawing, painting and of course, photography. At Concordia, she is under the wing of artists such as Johanne Biffi, Christian Knudsen, Jessica Auer and Thomas Kneubühler, ever learning from their expertise. Her current arsenal of oft-used cameras, modern and vintage, counts 6 and growing.

Shannon's interest in music led to freelance writing for various publications, beginning with The Saskatoon StarPhoenix in 2000. Shortly thereafter, she became a bi-monthly featured columnist and photo contributor for Kelowna's Event Magazine with a column named after The Who song "My Generation."

While writing is still beloved, it has shared the stage with an ever-growing interest in photography. She shot the cover and feature spread of Chromeo in their studio for Future Music in the UK and her photo of The Sheepdogs was published in Rolling Stone (Issue 1125), leading to an assignment from RS photo editors to shoot the 'dogs for their cover story (issue 1137).

Shannon is currently shooting for Montreal arts blog Midnight Poutine.
